Laetitia Maklouf, one of the team in C5's new garden programme is described as an author.
Her book isn't out yet (unless she has an earlier book on handbags that I'm not aware of).
Which made me wonder at what point do you become an author, or entitled to call yourself one?
After publication sure, but what about during, or before?
I really don't know.
What are your thoughts?

You can join the Society of Authors before your book has come out as long as you have some kind of contract (I know this through personal experience...)
See, that's what is good about blogs - you learn stuff - it's not all photos of freshly dug potatoes.
Thanks Alex
From the Amazon blurb:
For the busy and stressed, find quick ideas for turninggarage flowers into the perfect posy
Seeing we're sharing info here, can anyone tell me what garage flowers are?
The band The Stone Roses always referred to themselves as the Garage Flowers, so it's either that, or perhaps a reference to those black buckets that petrol filling stations provide for you to leave your dead flowers in.
Oh those garage flowers. It's a must have book then isn't it? ;)
Does anyone have a contact at Bloomsbury?
Perhaps we can get them to send VP a review copy and she can tell us what she thinks of it.
I dont think you get enough flowers in a bunch of garage flowers to turn them into a posy - but then that just me.
If not a posy - how about a nosegay?
In my experience garage flowers arent that gay nor do they smell that great, if at all
Fuck - thought it all sounded familiar... when i got to the piece about her dad having a chocolate coin factory i suddenly realised I know her family - a painting by her mum of two pears has pride of place in my kitchen! They are hilarious and she will be brilliant, they are proper posh mad excellent.
PS Nigella on TV last night showing how to take a bouquet of garage flowers and turn them into really a very pretty table decoration. She pulled them all out, chopped all the heads off, and then put each flower in a separate little Sarah raven style vase. it looked really nice... I have to admit
